EC&M, a national trade publication for electrical professionals, recently recognized Wes Newton of Hill Electric as one of their 30 Under 30 All-Stars for 2024. Newton, who currently serves as a Service Technician with the company, is the third Hill Electric employee to receive this prestigious designation, after Ricky Smith in 2021 and Jordan Latimer in 2023.
Wes has been with Hill Electric for two years, and was recognized for his work of going above and beyond the call of duty to demonstrate innovation, efficiency, and creativity while incorporating technology into his job.
Newton, 21, first came to Hill Electric in 2022 after earning his associate’s degree in mechatronics technology from Anderson 1 & 2 Career and Technology Center. Inspired by a professor who made electrical work fun and intriguing, Newton decided to pursue a career in the electrical trade. He started as a helper alongside Hill Electric veterans and quickly moved up the line to his current role.
With the industry advancing at such a quick pace, Newton believes it’s crucial for electricians to inform customers about different products and new methods. “Technology is paramount for today’s electrical firms,” he says. “If you are not open-minded and on the forefront of new products, then you are falling behind.” Newton emphasizes the importance of work ethic and caring about your work. “If you show up with a good attitude and you care about your work, people will teach you what you need to know,” he says.
“We are incredibly proud that one of our very own team members has been named one of the 30 Under 30 by EC&M. This prestigious recognition highlights their dedication, talent, and hard work in the electrical construction and maintenance industry. At Hill Electric, we strive to foster an environment where our team can thrive and achieve remarkable success. This honor is a testament to the exceptional caliber of our employees and the bright future ahead for both our team and the industry. Congratulations, Wes, on this outstanding achievement!” Trey Thomas, President & COO, Hill Electric.
