Hill Electric Vice President, David Wolke, recently had the opportunity to sit down with Adam Hoots and The Lean Builder team to discuss the importance of two things that Hill Electric Company takes very seriously, transparency and preparation.
After walking through his experience in the electrical building industry, David shared his insights on how being transparent with both clients and employees is not only morally right, but also leads to a more trusting, engaged, and productive team.
Since construction can often be a lucrative working environment while also being high risk, tensions can run high. However, with honesty and vulnerability, David and the team work together to make sure the final product is up to Hill standards.
Through his time in the industry, David has found that preparation can help save your clients time and money in the long run. One example he used in this story involved a plant shutdown that was scheduled to last five days. Thanks to Hill’s preparation, the team was able to streamline the process and complete the job in only two days, getting the plant back in working condition faster than expected.
He explained that, over time, the team adapts to ensure jobs are completed as efficiently as possible. The job that they cut down to two days would now only take them half a day to complete.
This reputation of transparency and preparation has helped Hill Electric grow an impressive roster of employees that have stayed with the company far beyond the normal tenure of someone in the field of construction.
