One employee in particular, Eric Johnson, perfectly embodies the spirit of Hill Electric and has been a pivotal part of our team for over 25 years. We recently spoke with Eric to talk about the past, present, and future of Hill Electric and learn about some of his highlights from his impressive tenure.
What did it mean to you to celebrate being with Hill for 25 years?
It was a goal that I wanted to achieve and was pretty excited to see 25 years.
What has it meant to you seeing HEC transform over your 25 years and through three different leaders?
It has been a lesson in nothing stays the same, negative or positive. These men have vision and have made decisions that have kept our company competitive and growing from before my time that will keep us going after I am gone.
What are some pieces of advice you would share with the younger generation entering the electrical trade or skilled trades?
- You do not have to know everything on the first day.
- Be on time.
- Give effort to learn and grow. Asking questions is not a failure.
- One of the best things is your surroundings change, so you’re not always at one place.
What are some of the changes you have seen occur in the electrical industry over the last 25 years?
Safety is the biggest thing that has changed. The tools we use are making jobs a little easier and a lot safer. Processes are also becoming much faster and more technical.
What would you say to a potential employee looking at a job at Hill Electric – why work for HEC?
You can make an incredible career at Hill Electric. You can come in not knowing much of anything and guys will take you under their wing and help bring you along. At Hill, you can make what you want out of a job, from working all the time to working (7 to 5) 4 days a week. With a job at Hill Electric, you really get what you put into it.
