Hill Electric President and COO, Trey Thomas, and Vice President, David Wolke, recently sat down with our friends at My Pulse Radio for another exciting episode of The Boone Show. The Boone Show, broadcast by Anderson I & II Career and Technology Center (ACTC), interviews leaders in the community that have had a significant impact on schools within the Anderson I and II school districts.

We started out by talking through everything Hill Electric is about–which is a lot. Our team works behind the scenes on so many of the products we enjoy in our daily lives. Throughout the years, we have had our hand in industries spanning from textiles to automotives and plastics. As the Upstate has grown, we have been fortunate to be able to partner with big names manufacturing in the Upstate, South Carolina. It is with companies such as these that we have found our niche, working with industrial processing equipment. Although the stakes are high, our team is prepared for the challenge through in-depth safety training and workshops.

These training sessions and workshops are some of the many ways we have been able to partner with ACTC over the years. One of the greatest gifts when working with the students in the Anderson I and II school districts is equipping the next generation of leaders with the tools they need to succeed in their careers. Giving students real world experience and showing them where their education can take them has proven to be invaluable when marketing themselves for higher education or entering the workforce.

Obviously, there is so much more to our work than simply wiring switches. Our workshops with ACTC show students that companies like Hill Electric are multi-faceted and need employees of all different skill sets and backgrounds. We offer many different training options. The goal of these training sessions is to give the students some real life application to the material that they are studying. This gives the students some tools to be ready to hit the ground running should they want to join our team or work for one of our manufacturing clients.

To some students, starting their first job can be intimidating; however, we pride ourselves on supporting them to ensure they are feeling confident in their newfound abilities. We often work with students straight out of high school and help them develop the mechanical skills and industry knowledge needed along the way.

Our best advice for students thinking about joining the workforce is to not let bad experiences with other jobs or internships hinder you. We believe there is always something to learn from everything life hands you. Our promise is that if you dedicate the time to learn with us, you will have everything you need to succeed.

We are thrilled for our upcoming big project with the district as we are sponsoring the next student build. Working alongside the electrical and construction instructors, the students build an outdoor workshop. They are also working on a fully functional outdoor classroom to give them hands-on experience while also enriching lives within the school district.

We are so proud to partner with ACTC to help shape the next generation of the workforce and are grateful to our friends at The Boone Show for helping us pave the way for our students.
